Harout Pamboukjian
A favorite among Armenians worldwide
Harout Pamboukjian, a true living legend of Armenian Music, was born to a music-loving, folk-singing family in Soviet Armenia, in 1950. In his early teens, he took up lessons for many musical instruments including the guitar, bouzouki, saz, dhol and the piano. During this time, having formed his first band, Erebuni, he went from village to village playing everything from Charles Aznavour to Deep Purple and Elvis. Feeling constraints on his artistic expression under the iron curtain, in 1975, Harout fled Soviet Armenia to Lebanon, and subsequently settled in Los Angeles. In the following years, Harout's energetic performance style and hybrid music quickly earned him a spot as the Armenian community's beloved singer. He performed at engagements, weddings, baptisms, cultural fares and dinner dances, where he left a cheerful mark on an entire Armenian Diasporan generation. With no signs of waning, Harout continues to rock his way into the future with his unique blend of folk, funk and pop.
